MURFREESBORO — LightWaveSolar will present a Solar 101 workshop for homeowners from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 19 at Patterson Park Community Center, located at 521 Mercury Blvd., in Murfreesboro.

The Solar 101 workshop is geared toward residential solar and will explain solar energy basics including technology and site requirements, utility and tax incentives, and costs and benefits.

Last fall Murfreesboro homeowners Steve and Lynnisse Patrick installed 40 solar panels at their home and then expanded their system by adding 42 panels this past March. Their 21 kilo-watt system is now the largest residential solar system in Murfreesboro.

The Patricks explained that, as part of TVA’s Green Power Providers program, Murfreesboro Electric Department buys 100 percent of their solar electricity at a premium.

“MED credits us every month, and since the system generates the equivalent of what we use, we won’t feel the pain of future rate increases,” Steve Patrick said. “We’ll come out well ahead in the long run.”

To register for the workshop, call 615-641-4050 or email [email protected]. Light refreshments will be provided.
