Press Release: LightWave Solar Installs Tullahoma’s First Grid-tied Solar System

Published February 9, 2015

The Bailey Company participates in Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Green Power Providers program in which TVA and local utilities, such as Tullahoma Utilities Board, pay a premium for 100% of the solar electricity generated. The payments show up as a credit on monthly electric bills.

“Solar reduces operating costs, and as electric rates go up, solar becomes increasingly valuable because of the avoidance of exposure to fuel cost increases over time,” says Brian Bickel, Sales Director at LightWave Solar. LightWave Solar installed the systems in Nashville, Tullahoma and Cookeville.

Ryan Bailey hopes that their system in Tullahoma will spur more solar installations in the community, and he encourages other local business owners to look into solar power for their businesses. Commercial solar installations are eligible for the 30% federal tax credit and accelerated depreciation.

As for sustainability, Bailey says, “Over the warrantied 25-year life of the panels, our solar generation will offset carbon emissions equivalent to planting about 4,500 acres of trees. That is significant in terms of offsetting climate change and improving air quality.”

At the Tullahoma facility, The Bailey Company has converted almost all of the lights to LED; installed skylights for day lighting; and implemented waste reduction policies such as reusing oil and recycling used antifreeze, paper, plastic, aluminum, and other materials.

“We’re committed to reducing our company’s environmental impact and thrilled to have the first solar system connected to Tullahoma Utility Board’s grid,” says Bailey.

TVA’s 2015 Green Power Providers program for new solar projects opens on January 26, 2015. For more information about installing solar, contact LightWave Solar at 615-641-4050.
